Visa Requirements for Travelling to Bhutan
  • All visitors require a visa before travelling to Bhutan except citizens of India, Bangladesh and the Maldives. Specific processes and fees for these countries are outlined separately.
    Visa Application Fees
  • Sustainable Development Fee (SDF):USD 100 per day (per adult) Concessionary rates apply for children.
  • A non-refundable one-time fee of USD 40 per application.
    How to Apply
    You can apply for a visa or permit in two ways:
  • Online: Complete the application form yourself.
  • Through a Tour Operator : If you’re travelling with a licensed tour operator, they can apply on your behalf.
  • You may apply for yourself and others in your travel group, as long as you have the required information for each person
    Documents and Information Required
  • A copy of your passport-Passport should be valid for six months from the intended date of your departure from Bhutan
  • A recent passport photo
    Steps to Apply for a Visa
  • Create an Account at the Department of Immigration Website
  • Enter your Travel details
  • Pay the visa application fee and SDF for your planned stay.
  • Once you submit your visa application, the Immigration Office typically processes it within 5 working days — so expect about one week for approval.
  • After approval, you'll receive your visa clearance letter (e-visa) via email. You can present either a printed or digital copy of this e-visa when traveling to Bhutan.
    Bhutan Visa Requirements for Indian, Maldivian and Bangladeshi Citizens
  • Indian citizens do not need a visa to visit Bhutan but are required to get a permit. This permit can be obtained either at the entry point or before the trip.
  • Citizens from Bangladesh and Maldives must have a visa to enter Bhutan which can be acquired upon arrival at the entry point.
