Bhutan a small Himalayan country known for its stunning landscapes and unique culture is served by a very limited number of airlines due to its challenging geography and strict aviation regulations. The main gateway into the country is Paro International Airport one of the most difficult airports in the world to land as it is surrounded by some of the highest mountain peaks.There are only two ways to enter and exit Bhutan: by air and by land.
1. Drukair – Royal Bhutan Airlines
Drukair is established in 1981 and it is wholly owned by the Royal Government of Bhutan.It is the national flag carrier of Bhutan. Drukair operates a small fleet of Airbus A319s and ATR aircraft. It connects Bhutan to several major cities in South Asia and domestic flight within Bhuatn.
2. Bhutan Airlines
Bhutan Airlines operated by Tashi group of company Pvt. Ltd. is Bhutan’s first private airline. It began operations in 2013 and also flies out of Paro International Airport. Though smaller than Drukair, Bhutan Airlines plays an important role in expanding the country's air connectivity.
